Batfam’s opinion on weed? Do they smoke?

Bruce= No. He doesn't mind other people smoking/eating edibles/etc. But it's not for him. He's too paranoid about /getting/ paranoid while high. Plus he doesn't want to get called in for an emergency or something and has to show up high. He did smoke a bit in his high school years though with Harvey.

Kate= Not until she was 30. She grew up with a strict father and joined the military at 17 and had a long career there and they did drug tests so she never could. She uses it medicinally to help with her anxiety/PTSD when she leaves the military. (She also goes to therapy, don't worry).

Luke= No. Was always too scared of what his father would think if he found out, and didn't want to disappoint him so he never touched it. Recreational smoking also wasn't legal in NJ until 2021 so he doubly wasn't gonna risk it.

Barbara= Smoked in highschool/early college mainly to help de-stress, but doesn't anymore as she's developed new ways to deal with her stress over the year. Very rarely (maybe once or twice a year) she'll have one of Jason's edibles.

Dick= Occasionally. Not until he was in his 20's and mainly to help with any pain he has. Every once in a while he will recreationally when he's with a group and they're doing a sesh.

Jason= Yes. He's invited to the monthly sesh with the rogues too. He prefers edibles though and likes putting them in the brownies he makes. He's the go to edible guy in the family/his friend group. His brownies are GREAT.

Cass = No. Never has and never will. Not for any particular reason, she just doesn't personally find the appeal (and there is nothing wrong with that).

Steph: Yes. Actually got caught smoking in the school's bathroom for the first time in 8th grade getting herself suspended for two weeks. Promised she'd never touch weed again, which was a lie. Heavily smoked in highschool, and slowed down after she turned 18. Smokes at least once a week. And LOVES Jason's brownies and will nab some whenever she gets the chance.

Tim: Yes. But he has to smoke with other people. For whatever reason if he smokes alone he gets super paranoid. He needs to be surrounded by people he trusts to comfortably smoke. Doesn't like getting high in front of his family (even if he knows they won't mind) so only does so with his friends.

Duke: Tried once with a friend when he was 16 but it was laced with something else and he had a BAD trip which completely turned him off from it. His family and friends have offered to get him weed and ensure themselves that it isn't laced with anything, but again his one experience has completely turned him off from it. Maybe when he's much older and removed from the experience he'll try again.

Damian: No. He's thirteen. When he's older though and his family/friends offer him, he still refuses. He thinks he's "above drugs" which makes the rest of the family roll their eyes at him. He sees that his father doesn't, so he refuses to as well. (In his last year of college Jon convinces him to smoke just this once, and he relents. He will never admit he enjoyed the experience)

Batfamily + Cooking

Alfred:

He's the main cook, and has been since taking the job as the Wayne's butler. Classically trained in the culinary arts, and thankfully stillvery much enjoys it, though not as much as he used to. He likes baking more than cooking, and has gotten more of a sweet tooth as he's gotten older. Leans more on your classic British dishes, but is always happy to try a requested recipe. Prefers to cook either alone or with competent help.

Bruce:

No. Cannot even be trusted to make a grilled cheese, he always burns them.

Barbara:

Pretty good. Very much a 'throw something together at 7:30, eat at 8' kind of person, but everyone is always happy to have what she cooks. If it takes hours to make then its not worth it. A teacher suggested once that being raised by a single father, she must do most of the cooking and cleaning, and after that she refused to learn how to cook out of sheer stubbornness.

Dick:

An excellent cook. I think it comes naturally to him, he didn't spend much time cooking growing up but once he taught himself the basics he can pretty much throw anything together. Its by no means a passion of his, but he does enjoy it. However, he doesn't cook often due to being too busy and/or tired, so he gets a lot of takeout or just has something quick or microwavable very often. But if he's cooking you best be there. Anything can be a social occasion and he happily accepts help in the kitchen. Not great at baking though, he always manages to over-cook or over-mix.

Cassandra:

I'm sorry but she will throw rice, water, and and an unseasoned chicken breast in the rice cooker and call it a night. Either that or she'll have a protein shake and seven eggs.

Jason:

Quite good. Unlike Dick, it doesn't come naturally to him, but he is a fast learner and picked it up mostly from Catherine, Alfred, and YouTube. That being said, would he prefer tortellini en brodo or four boxes of Kraft mac and cheese? Tamales or something quick and greasy from Bat Burger? Its always the second option. I think he often cooks as a distraction or just something to do, and just gives it to the single mother across the hall or throws it in the freezer to eat a week later.

Stephanie:

Decent. She'll see a recipe on TikTok and will try it instantly, and she's always excited to try something new. Works best with a recipe but decides just to wing it mostly. Cooking with her mother has become somewhat of a bonding activity. Really good at baking, especially things like brownies and cookies. However, she will also throw pickles, peanut butter and ice cream in a blender and swear it tastes fantastic. Is learning to cook more because everytime she sees Cass eating a boiled chicken breast she takes psychic damage. Trying to sneak meat alternatives into Cass without her noticing. It worked once.

Tim:

Not great. Will follow the recipe to the letter and will somehow still fuck it up. He mostly sticks to simple recipes that are hard to mess up, and also just doesn't have the desire to spend heaps of time in the kitchen. He does make a mean sandwich though, every time someone tries to replicate one its just never as good.

Duke:

Doesn't particularly enjoy cooking but he's fine at it. Not as bad as Cassandra, he will season his food, but prefers it to be quick and not complicated. Loves heavier foods like pastas and other carbs but doesn't have the patience or desire to make them from scratch so he uses jar sauces, frozen potatoes etc. Will put taco seasoning on everything.

Damian:

Good eventually. Doesn't cook a lot now, but when he was younger he had a kind of 'well obviously its not difficult, its just cooking' mindset. He was humbled. By Dick. I think when he's older he is much better. Will still follow a recipe so it is perfect every time. It isn't a hobby, just a task that must be completed, but he'll be damned if he's eating bland food, he will spend an hour preparing vegetable tagine. Nobody can help of even be in the kitchen with him while he is cooking, because they are breathing all the kitchen air and taking up all the room. Get out.

I just... I need a sec. Y'all's family hides that shit? I kid ya not, my mom's offered me gummies, one of my siblings has a weed desk, and my father swore he'd constantly be smoking as soon as he retires. My other siblings' partner did weed a lot too.

I don't really like weed for myself (the lack of control freaks me out and I've had a few bad trips), but at least one of my siblings very openly uses weed often lmao.

I got off track. Whoops. Anyways, Dick. Dick 100% does weed. It helps with his anxiety and anger (also Discowing).

When Dick "sneaks out" to smoke, some of the others join him. Jason is always there regardless if he's taking a hit, smoking a cigarette, or just taking a moment away from Bruce (Bruce is rarely welcome during these moments. It's more of a sibling thing).

Steph probably bakes brownies and has a weed stash in Tim's room. She'll occasionally join them, but not always. She's usually hanging around Cass, Duke, Tim, or Damian.

Now... I adore the stoner Tim au. It's hilarious and great. For this post, there's two options for Tim.

If he's a stoner, then Dick didn't find out until a hilariously late time. Dick is reasonably upset that he found out so late when it's another way for Tim and him to bond.

If he's not, I'd hc him to be closer to how I feel about it. He's chill with other who do it, but doesn't like the way it fucks with his control, awareness, and ability to think. Instead, he'd rather drink alcohol.

Hmm... I'm curious how weed, alcohol, or substances would interact with Cass's ability to read body language. If it makes it harder or lessens the amount of signals she perceives, this could either freak her out or give her brain a break.

Funny answer for Cass is that she does a *shit* ton of weed and somehow manages to hide it from everyone but those she's told (maybe Steph and Tim?)

I need to learn more about Duke. Until I know otherwise, let's say that he occasionally does it for fun with friends or a batfam member, but usually refrains.

Damian is a kid. Maybe when he's older, he takes a night off every month or so to decompress with the help of weed.

Alfred does weed too. How the fuck else is he supposed to deal with all the stress of the Bats? He'll go out to "tend the garden" which is code for "leave him the fuck alone so he can de-stress and smoke."

Bruce might every once in a while, but he stopped heavy usage when he put on the cowl.

The whole batfam knows and is chill with weed. The substance they do hide, however, is alcohol. Some members have trauma and shit with alcohol. This means the others try not to consume alcohol around those members and obscure their alcohol consumption in general. Whether those with alcohol trauma consume alcohol as well, the others still refrain in front of them.

The Hot Vintage Lady Polls continue to go for the throat. I felt so bad about Dorothy Dandridge that I started posting and reblogging propaganda for her, but Ava Gardner, my beloved, went through anyway. Like, there’s a point when your girl is gonna come up against a Hepburn, you know?

Hozier Watch 2024: His first U.S. #1, which he’s now playing at shows! The first U.S. #1 for an Irish artist in 34 years! What?? you cry. Did “Take Me to Church” not do that ten years ago? Well, I went and looked it up: No. That was the “Blank Space” era. Say no more. 

Speaking of Taylor Swift—Paste Magazine went IN on the new album and got threats as a result. Meanwhile, Taylor’s fans are harassing the ex-boyfriend who did nothing wrong (as opposed to the racist one) because her PR is egging them on. I’ll admit: even though I’m not a fan, I found the Paste review to be overlong and not focused enough on the actual songs, proportionally. But that post about the PR saga is everything I miss about Fandom Wank.

Meanwhile, the Watcher guys issued the best apology possible, although it was still excruciating to watch. (Background.) They will remain on YouTube while introducing the streaming service. As a Patreon member, I haven’t asked for my free subscription code yet, but I’m going to. Some fans forgave them pretty easily; others have walked away. I’m curious to see if this affects the mood of anything new they film, since a segment of the fandom got really, really ugly about it. Mostly it just felt sad all around.

SATURDAY'S SALTY SALUTATIONS

Now my mom is in the hospital. She hasn't been feeling well and her doctor wasn't finding anything so she finally went to the ER. They say it's her heart and they're getting her stabilized. She thinks she'll go home today. I hope so.

Kitten's mom is the same. Every time they take her off antibiotics her white blood cell counts rise. It's still a couple of weeks before we can get into the nephrologist.

Her hospital bed for the home is lined up for delivery next week. We're still figuring out how to make it fit in the living room.

The sofa is currently standing on it's side, waiting to be dragged out to the street. It turns out the springs in it were fine. Apparently the board was added just to keep you from sinking down into the comfy seat, which just made it really uncomfortable to sit on. Maybe that was the point, they just didn't want people to overstay their welcome.

The power went out a couple of times yesterday. It gave me flashbacks to the constant planned power outages in Santa Barbara. The power company is much more reliable here though and the longest outage was only two hours.

We had lunch at The Great Escape in Schiller Park. A former speakeasy where Al Capone used to hangout, it has great service, a beautiful antique bar, and a history of hauntings.

I had french onion soup and a dijon crusted bass that were both excellent. Kitten had their signature homemade chicken pot pie. For desert it was spumoni for me, I haven't had it in years. She got a salted caramel brownie ala mode that was pretty dang good. Thumbs up, five stars.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to convince the dog it's okay to remove her sofa.

thinking about how fragile dennis was when he was younger. he was small, nervous, timid even. scared of speaking out of line and getting yelled at ( frank and barbara would do this to him and dee frequently ). he tried very hard in school, trying to get the best grades possible to appease his parents. his mother loved him in a suffocating way, constantly doting on him and babying him. it was clear that she favored him over dee, and dennis didn't really know what to do with that. even with his mothers love, whenever he made one small mistake or didn't do something that 'little boys' were supposed to do, his mothers mood switched. she would yell at him and say over and over how disappointment she was in him. it gave dennis such a warped view on himself, teaching him that it was often easier to be someone he wasn't in order for things to be peaceful at home. frank was barely around for raising the twins. barbara wasn't much either, but she at least showed some sort of affection. frank was often out for 'business', not paying much attention to his children. canonically, when dennis got the chicken pox, frank went away on vacation because he didn't want to get sick. i have a feeling that happened often when dee or dennis fell ill, frank would leave. barbara would be too drunk or high to do anything about it, so they were often left in the care of nannies. frank and barabara argued often, and dennis hated it. sudden loud noises always scared him and he never handled yelling very well. he often sought comfort in dee, coming into her bedroom when their parents would be screaming at each other, crying and begging for her to hold him and protect him. when they were younger, the twins were practically inseparable. they depended on each other to keep each other safe. sure, they had their normal sibling bickering, but nothing near the level of arguing they do in their adult life. dennis started to get a bit more jaded in his high school years. he began to slip on his mask more often than not, craving popularity in high school. because of dee's back brace he found it easy to bully his sister, finding that it earned him brownie points with the popular kids. even once he met mac and charlie, he would bully them as well. he loved spending time with them, but what would his parents say if they knew he was hanging out with the poor kids ?? so he pretended to hate them when necessary even if it hurt him to do so. after college he adopted the playboy persona, pushing down all of the experimenting with gender expression and sexuality that he had done in college. now he was working for frank and he couldn't act that way around his father. as the years went on he just kept wearing the mask, kept pretending to be someone he wasn't, until he started to forget who he really was and what he really wanted.

This isn't really a HC, but he smells really nice. His entire place smells really good, too. Luffy really likes the smell of his car LOL and never let's him forget that.

I've mentioned this before kinda, but his comfort game is Deemo. He likes listening to the music from the game and putting it on while he works, now and then.

His favorite flavor of ice cream is plain vanilla. He can deal with chocolate chips, but he's pretty picky. If you give him a warm brownie alongside it tho, he'll be hooked.

His Genshin Impact team would be Albedo, Fischl, Yoimiya, and Xiao. He also ships Xiao and Venti. He mains as Albedo, but he also really likes Gorou, Barbara, and Chonghyun (it was his starting main).

He would never have Tiktok.

I've also mentioned one of these before, but he can play the piano and the ocarina really well. Also slightly cannon but he can sing very well.

He doesn't drink soda, but if he had to choose, he prefers regular Dr. Pepper.

If he was the reader, his favorite Straw Hat would be Nami, but he also likes Chopper, Corazon (in every HC in every timeline lol), and Ace.

He loves summer weather. He hates the snow.

He's very good at photography and likes going on walks now and then to take photos.

If you asked him what song he's been jamming to recently, he'd say Der Shelby pt.2-Hozier.

His favorite Victorious character is Jade West. He also likes Beck.

He'd own a dog, probably like a husky, golden retriever, or a samoyed. When he's a doctor, he'd own 4-5 dogs.

I really don't see him dating anyone unless they gave like sunshine/warm colored vibes. Ace or Luffy coded characters would probably have the best chemistry with him.

His favorite SpongeBob episodes are "Shanghaied", "Wet Painters", "Graveyard Shift", and "Dying for Pie".

If he could visit any place in America, he'd probably choose Yellowstone.

He'd cry for John Lennon if he visited the Dakota Apt.'s in New York.

He convinced Luffy that the Blair Witch Project was real.

He would be really good at Prop Hunt.

He is a very patient and safe driver.

Young Law HC's

This HC is kinda sad/sentimental, just a heads up.

I like to imagine if he grew up in the Modern World, he'd really like basketball. Corazon would save up the money to buy tickets to basketball games, and would take Law. Corazon is overall just the best most wholesome awesome Dad ever in my HC. He's doing his best. He'd show up to the Father's, Grandparent's, and Mother's day events at his school to make sure he wasn't alone. If he couldn't make it, he'd have one of his marine buddies go. He'd get Law happy meals and buy him ice cream. He'd have an album full of polaroids with him and Corazon.

This one's kinda sad but I feel like he'd be a really lonely kid throughout elementary school. He'd be really unpopular, but would be seen as "Quiet and Smart, and kinda intimidating". He'd watch Ace play basketball and eventually join him, and get sad when he graduates to highschool. He'd be really lonely and listen to music during lunchtime at a table by himself. He'd eventually have a friend group, but he'd still have issues with depression. He'd also be really good at art, but never pursue it. Teachers would think he's a very bright individual and is very polite, but very quiet.

For his birthday, he'd ask for comic books, robot figures, and a new pair of sneakers.

He'd love Radiohead. This is a bit biased, but his favorite song would be "No Surprises-Radiohead".

He'd also really like the Beatles. John would be his favorite member. He'd 100% have a Beatles poster in his room.

I don't wanna make the HC more angsty, but Corazon would make sure he goes to therapy.

He really likes dogs. He'd like animals in general. Corazon would take him to the zoo, and they'd look at the penguins and the petting zoo.
